Introduction !!

So I thought I better start a blog now that I am well and truly on the way to major surgery.  After 12 months of dentists, hygienists and hospital appointments I am finally on the road to having an operation done that will change my life, a Bimaxillary Osteotomy (both jaws to be broken and reset).

I have always had issues about the way I look and the way my top teeth stick out.  I went through years of braces when I was a teenager and they never made any difference.  Whereas all my friends were getting lovely straight white teeth mine just seemed to get worse, until one day the Orthodontist told me there was nothing else he could do and the only option was surgery.  At the age of 18 I did look into the option of an operation on my jaw but due to a bad dentist and loads of warnings about time in intensive care, small chance of it working and a possibility of permanent pain, I decided it was not an option for me.

Fast forward to now - I am 32, in permanent pain from a dodgy jaw and still licking the wounds of a lifetime of bullying and abuse.   So off I went to my new dentist and asked him if surgery was till an option.  he took some measurements and agreed that yes, it is something that can be done and he referred me off to the hospital with a warning that the timescale for the op would be several years.  He did also point out that this type of surgery has made leaps and bounds over time and there is now no need for intensive care, success rte are sky high and there are very few people who have any pain afterwards.

I leave the dentists office feeling happy, and for the first time ever confident that I can be normal looking and maybe even pretty.  People think I am mad . . . .I cannot wait for them to break my jaw and I am not worried about the pain - it will all be worth it.
